Hundreds of students from across Greater Manchester are preparing to take part in one of the region’s biggest skills contests this week (18-22 May 2015) as part of the GMCG Inter College Competition.
Organised by the Greater Manchester Colleges Group, 10 colleges including Salford, Bury, Hopwood Hall, Manchester, Oldham, Bolton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan & Leigh will play host to partner colleges from the GMCG as teams of students go head to head for the annual competition, all vying for the title of best college.
Each of the colleges from within the group will host and coordinate a different skills competition throughout the week in the sectors of Hair and Beauty, Construction, Enterprise, Digital Media, Engineering, Hospitality and Tourism, Music and Performing Arts, Art and Design, Public Service and Sport, giving talented students the opportunity to compete against one another and showcase their skills.
Winning colleges and students from this week’s various competitions will gain the experience they need to move on and enter regional heats of WorldSkills UK 2016, a set of national competitions that demonstrate the world of opportunities that come with vocational study, and inspire world-class excellence in vocational skills.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to see students from all across Greater Manchester competing for such great awards. This is a really significant accolade for the students in their career development and will give them the confidence to go on to do what they’re most passionate about. We couldn’t ask for greater advocates of Greater Manchester Colleges and we’re all immensely proud of their achievements and successes.” said Marie Gilluley, Chair of the Greater Manchester College’s Group.
